Spa Insurance

Like any business, no spa can be run entirely without risk. Someone could slip on a poorly wiped floor, a client could have an allergic reaction to a product, or a massage could lead to an injury.

When it comes to insurance, every spa is different. But the most commonly found kinds of spa insurance include:

1. Public liability insurance

This protects your spa business in the event of any claims made against it from a third party. That generally includes liability for an injury, such as pain suffered as a result of treatment, slips on wet floor surfaces, or trips up stairs if your premises has stepped entry. However, it also covers instances in which you or your staff have inadvertently damaged a customer’s possessions in some way – perhaps if a product has been spilt on an expensive bag, for example.

2. Employer’s liability

This is a legal requirement if you employ people, including casual or part-time workers. It helps with compensation in the event an employer has an accident while working, perhaps by slipping on a floor that has recently been cleaned, tripping over wires or stock, or sustaining an occupational injury. Claims could also be made if their belongings have been damaged.

3. Malpractice and treatment liability insurance

You strive to hire professionals in your spa. But if a client is injured because of an employee’s mistake, this protects you against claims for negligence in delivering treatments or other services.

Other kinds of insurance available for spas include product liability if any of your products provoke an allergic reaction in someone, resulting in legal costs to your business.

You may also want to consider commercial property insurance for events such as floods or high winds which damage your premises. That means your spa can open again quickly.

Cover is also available for any costly specialist equipment you may have, and if for any reason you have to stop trading for a while. Finally, cyber insurance protects a spa if personal data is hacked.

When it comes time to protect your spa business, ensure you work with a specialist team to get the exact level of cover your spa needs.
